AN EXCITING DAY AT WELGEDACHT WASTEWATER TREATMENT WORKS
Excitement filled the air on Monday, 9 May 2016 when the Executive Manager: Operations, Mr Fortune Mabunda, switched on the pumps to start pumping the first wastewater through the new 50 megalitre per day (Mℓ/day) extension at ERWAT’s Welgedacht Wastewater Treatment Works (WWTW).
The existing 35 Mℓ/per day Welgedacht plant near Springs was running over-capacity and necessitated the new Module 2 Extension to cope with increased demand for wastewater treatment from Benoni, Boksburg, Springs, Bakerton and Daveyton.
The project cost amounted to some R518 million and took four years to complete. Once fully commissioned, the extension will be formally handed over to ERWAT in August 2016
